FAQ

Sophomores and juniors who have taken taken Algebra 2 and at least one practice test or official SAT tend to benefit most from this course. It works particularly well for students scoring anywhere from a 1000-1400 overall. If you’re not sure where your student’s score stands, see What Is a Good SAT Score in 2026? for a breakdown by range, percentile, and college fit.

Fully virtual and live on Zoom, with the same link both evenings. There’s no driving on a school night, and it works for students anywhere.

Six hours of live, virtual instruction over two evenings: three hours of Math on October 20 and three hours of Reading & Writing on October 22. Students after the sessions will receive a copy of the session recordings and materials used.

A laptop or tablet with a stable connection and a notebook and calculator help for the Math session. Most importantly, a ready to learn attitude!

It’s strongly recommended. A full-length practice test in the College Board’s free Bluebook app gives your student a baseline score. It also shows which sections to focus on during the two evenings, and it helps them see the strategies in action on questions they’ve already worked through.

Each session is capped at 10 students. That’s small enough for students to ask questions and get feedback on problems worked live, and big enough to learn from their peers’ questions.

If your student is unable to join one of the evenings, we provide access to the session recordings as well as materials used during the boot camp for independent review.

The timing is set so there’s room to review afterward before the November 7 test. However, the content and strategies apply to any upcoming SAT date and for students finalizing their studying or just getting started.

This bootcamp is a small-group format covering the highest-value strategies for each section at a lower cost. Families often use it before starting 1:1 work. During individualized tutoring, we go into greater detail in the content and strategies covered in the boot camp, but focus extensively on individual needs and gaps. You can read more about 1:1 options here.

The best way to figure out which test is right for you is by taking both an SAT and ACT practice test. Free official practice tests can be found both on the College Board (SAT) and ACT Inc (ACT) websites. Once both tests are completed, you can use a concordance table to see which test you score comparatively better on. Our SAT vs. ACT guide walks through the differences in greater detail for more information.

I teach every session myself. I have more than 10 years and 1,500+ hours of tutoring experience, degrees from Colgate and Johns Hopkins, and memberships in NTPA and TPAPT. You can read more about my background and approach here.

Keep practicing consistently. A few focused sessions each week beats one long cram session the weekend before. Use the recordings and materials to review the strategies, then apply them to timed practice sections. For why consistency matters more than motivation, read SAT Preparation: Why Discipline Beats Motivation.

Many families use the bootcamp as a starting point. With 1:1 tutoring, we build a personalized plan around your student’s specific gaps, pacing, and target score. Full refunds are available up to 24 hours before the first session. Just email info@tutoringbymatt.com.
